Drug Coverage Still Unnoticed: Letter to The New Brunswick Telegraph Journal (March 11, 2011)
Drug coverage still unnoticed
It would be wonderful if some day a newly elected government would
follow through on the commitments they make during the election
campaign.
In 1999, the Lord government was elected, fully aware of the issues
around catastrophic drug coverage in our province. Two governing terms
passed by and they did nothing to fix the problem.
During that time, the opposition Liberals lamented how terrible the
Lord government was for allowing New Brunswickers to suffer in this way,
leaving one to hope that if they ever came to power they would act
quickly.
Sadly no, during their four-year term, no catastrophic drug program for New Brunswick exists.
But during the Liberal term we had the opposition Conservatives lament the inaction of the Graham government on the issue.
I sit and wonder how many more changes in the governing party we will
have to see before New Brunswick can address a problem that has already
been dealt with to some extent in every other province but one.
